Who are we?
COINS is a 501c3 Not For Profit community-based organization formed in 1997 out of the concerns of safety-net providers that uninsured people in our community did not have access to appropriate and comprehensive health care services.
COINS, supports the efforts of safety-net providers and serves the uninsured through its programs and services:
Care Access and Referral Line (CARL) is available to the general public. CARL helps link the caller with a primary care provider, prenatal care appointments, pharmaceutical prescription assistance programs, health insurance coverage and enrollment in Project Access.
Central Oklahoma Project Access (COPA) is the referral network linking uninsured referred by their primary care provider to donated or reduced fee specialty, hospital and ancillary health care services which are donated to COPA by community specialists, laboratories and hospitals.
Community Based Primary Care Continuing Medical Education (CME) brings community and academic specialists to the safety-net provider informing them on strategies for managing more complex primary care cases in the community setting. CME assists the safety-net provider in more effectively utilizing available specialty and hospital consultation services.
Shared Education and Training programs offered by COINS helps reduce the costs of providing staff development, online training and education needed by safety net provider organizations.
Many of the uninsured served through COINS programs make less than $10,000 a year, work at one or more low-wage paying jobs and do not qualify for federal or state health coverage. They choose between having a roof over their head, food on their table and paying for health insurance and health care. COINS works with their primary care providers to obtain care for these people.
